a small ground squirrel. i tried to swerve out of the way but it ran right under my wheel. i looked in the rear view mirror and it lay motionless in the road.

i agree with all the above comments. it's sad news you report, but that you report and acknowledge it - in it's happening and being unfortunate - is an admirable thing.
I'm glad you are posting again. There is something touching in the fact that you acknowledge these lives lived which are seen as lesser in some way by most in our society. Thank you for restoring a sense of significance.
